4/4 & 14 Washington, DC Cherry Blossoms

In honor of one of our nation's most beloved treasures, and a living reminder of international friendship and the beauty of nature, celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Cherry Trees. In 1912, an incredible gift of 3000 cherry blossom trees was bestowed on Washington, DC by Tokyo, Japan. Rooted strongly and surviving outside elements, the trees have withstood the test of time. The date when the Yoshino cherry blossoms reach peak bloom varies from year to year depending on weather conditions. A short driving tour of the Tidal Basin area where a large concentration of trees may be found will be included. The group will be dropped in the area of the Smithsonian Institute for passengers to spend the remainder of the stay as they chose. Enjoy the trip and get an up close view of the blossoms, landmarks and statuesque monuments. Washington DC will be painted in pink for this annual celebration.

Flight 93 National Memorial holds a spot on the nation's honor roll of iconic places which includes Gettysburg and Pearl Harbor. What began as an ordinary morning ended as a historic day when a common field in Pennsylvania was forever changed. Discover a story of courage, action and honor. On July 24, 2002, the next tragedy of the region began to unfold as 9 miners were trapped underground at the Quecreek Mines. A rescue operation began and after more than 78 hours, all 9 miners were rescued. Visit the sites of these terrifying events, and hear the stories from the people who still live there today. It is hard to believe it has been 10 years since these 2 days - come along and check out these pieces of history.

The smartest way to visit the new 9/11 Memorial in New York is via Liberty State Park in New Jersey. Take advantage of this opportunity and see 3 attractions on this on tour. Back on the Susquehanna calendar this year by request is the Fall 2012 AAA 400 at the Dover International Speedway. This one mile track is unique in that it is neither a superspeedway nor a short track. Also, it is one of three concrete oval tracks used in NASCAR's major series. Arriving early will permit time to shop the trailers, or among other things, stop by for photo opps with "Miles the Monster". He stands 46 feet tall and is one of the largest fiberglass structures in the country. Check out the over 200 granite plaques circling his base dedicated to legendary drivers who have made their mark on the Dover International Speedway record books. On this vacation, the first of two nights will be spent in the heart of the White Mountains at the Snowy Owl Inn in Waterville Valley. Day 2 includes one of the most scenic rides in New England, particularly during the fall foliage season! There will be photo stops on this tour through the White Mountains traveling via the Kancamagus Highway - one of America's prettiest routes with covered bridges, waterfalls and often a moose or two. This tour is a little different than the usual tours of historic areas. For over two hundred years, stories of the Battle of Gettysburg have been told. The Radio City Christmas Spectacular is the legendary variety show that has been a Christmas tradition in New York City for generations.
